EXP2: 36 Custom Textures

EXP2: The Black Box

I chose Project 5, slide 64, page 67 from the Black Box as it best reflects components of my design. It shows shadow as repetition which allows the design to be spread onto its surroundings creating its own space which is a component of my design. The slide give a sense of free floating which is also a component of my design. The shadow is used to repeat the form that is casting the shadow. The shadow can be broken up by the surface (the environment) onto which the shadow casts. The use of shadow as repetition mirrors the objects, allowing the image to be enlarged on its surroundings, which joins the objects with their environment, which is also reflects a component of my design. It also gives the object a space for itself as the shadow is used as part of the image captured.

EXP2: Rewritten quote from two clients (Nicole Kuepper and Stephen Hawking)

"It is fair to say that thinking and experimenting outside the square is a design initiative that we should take, as our only long term survival is not to remain invert looking on planet earth, but to spread out into space."

EXP2: Three quotes

Nicole Kuepper

As quoted by Nicole Kuepper in 2008:
"I love working with passionate people who want to help address climate change and poverty by thinking and experimenting outside the square...resulted in the iJET cell concept that uses low-cost and low-temperature processes, such as ink-jet printing and pizza ovens, to manufacture solar cells. "

Charles Darwin (an English naturalist)

As quoted by Charles Darwin in 1859:
"As many more individuals of each species are born than can possibly survive; and as, consequently, there is a frequently recurring struggle for existence, it follows that any being, if it vary however slightly in any manner profitable to itself, under the complex and sometimes varying conditions of life, will have a better chance of surviving, and thus be naturally selected. From the strong principle of inheritance, any selected variety will tend to propagate its now and modified form."

Stephen Hawking (a British theoretical physicist)

As quoted by Stephen Hawking in an interview on TED in 2008:
"If we are the only intelligent beings in the galaxy, we should make sure we survive and continue. But we are entering an increasingly dangerous period of our history. Our population and our use of the fine eyed resources of planet earth are growing exponentially along with our technical ability to change the environment for good or for ill. But our genetic code still carries a cell efficient aggressive instincts that we're a survival advantage in the past. Our only handsome long term survival is not to remain invert looking on planet earth, but to spread out into space."

These quotes suggest a distinctive and significant approach to engaging with each clients ideas as they all have the idea of human beings making a CHANGE for the good in order to save the planet and human population, in relation to time and space.
